Next Kids Fun Fishing Day is June 5 at Luhr County Park

On Saturday, June 5, bring the family out to Luhr County Park for Kids Fishing Fun Day from 9 to 11 a.m. Head to the pond for some fun and free outdoor adventure.

Kids will be able to learn the basics of fishing from members of the Steelheaders fishing organization. La Porte County Parks staff members will also be there to help young fishing enthusiasts learn to hold the fishing pole, bait the hook, cast, take fish off the hooks, and more.

The pond at Luhr Park is home to bluegill, crappie, bass, catfish and more.

A limited amount of fishing poles will be available, or bring your own. This event is co-sponsored by the Northwest Indiana Steelheaders, who provide all of the bait for the day as some poles.

No pre-registration is required. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

In addition, Hoosiers can fish for free without a license in Indiana that weekend as well.

When you cast a fishing line with kids, you catch more than fish.  It can be a time to slow down, enjoy the outdoors and catch up with family, said Laura Moyer, recreation and education programmer for La Porte County Parks. While at Luhr, don’t let the pond be your final destination; come inside the nature center and discover more. The center will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 5.

Luhr Park is located at 3178S CR-150W, La Porte.
