The Play For Jake Foundation has recognized the inaugural recipients of its #23 Scholarship, a newly founded scholarship in the legacy of Jake West.

Nathan Surowiec, Trevor Stachowski, Jeramiah Ruiz, Matthew Garwood and Beau Scott were named the 2021 recipients of the $250 scholarship by Play For Jake founder Julie West.

Founded in 2013 by West after the loss of her son, The Play For Jake Foundation is dedicated to the prevention of sudden cardiac arrest in youth.

“Lacrosse was Jake’s passion and I hope all of these young men will continue to follow their own passions post-graduation,” said West.

All active seniors within the La Porte High School lacrosse program are eligible to apply for the scholarship, which consists of a series of questions, and is offered annually.

“I believe Jake’s time playing lacrosse helped to mold him into the person he was,” said West. “It is wonderful to continue his legacy within the program and honor these seniors for their hard work.”
