Karen Wherley, 1942-2021


Karen Sue Wherley, 78, of Michigan City, Ind., passed away unexpectedly at 5:46 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2021, in her home.

She was born Dec. 14, 1942, in Laurel, Md., to Ralph Thurston and Erma Mildred (Jones) Keyser.

Karen retired from Walmart as a cashier after 22 years. She worked for Fannie Farmer and was an Avon Lady for several years. Karen enjoyed crafts, gardening and watching the hummingbirds. She was a loving wife, great stay-at-home mother, and devoted grandmother and great-grandmother.

On Sept. 2, 1961, in South Bend, Ind., she married Dean Ray Wherley, who preceded her in death Jan. 15, 2020.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; infant sister, Patty Keyser; infant brother, Ralph Keyser, Jr.; and brother, Steve Keyser.

Surviving are her children, Tracy Wherley Brockman of Michigan City and Daniel (Michelle) Wherley of La Porte, Ind.; one sister, Nancy (David) Leiso; two brothers, Gary (Cindy) Keyser and David (Julie) Keyser; four grandchildren, Brandee (Jack) Robbins, Nicholus Wilke, and Sara and Kevin Wherley; two great-grandchildren, Deziray and Nadia; special companion, Bob Golec; and several loving nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 11, at Pine Lake Cemetery, La Porte, with Pastor Warren G. Smith, Sr., officiating. Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, La Porte, is handling arrangements.

    I knew Karen for some yr’s she was such a happy outgoing lady! Iam sorry Tracy and Brandee and for all the family much love to you all !
