Melinda Gaw, 1951-2021


Melinda G. Gaw, 69, of Michigan City, Ind., passed away Sunday, June 6, 2021.

She was born Oct. 17, 1951, in La Porte, Ind., to Vernon Gerald and Margaret Ellen (Trump) Gaw.

Melinda worked for La Porte County EMS as an EMT and in the office. She was a bus driver, worked at the DMV, was a corrections officer at Westville Correctional Facility and Indiana State Prison, worked at Joy Manufacturing, and was a member of Springfield Township Volunteer Fire Department. Melinda received the La Porte County EMS Appreciation and Dedicated Service Award, having served from July 1997 to August 2014.

Melinda is survived by her son, Kenneth “Buddy” Emmons, Jr.; granddaughter, Maggie Emmons; and her best friend, Linda Byers.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her infant daughter, Jennifer Jo Emmons.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, June 10, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, La Porte. A graveside service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Springville Cemetery in La Porte. Pastor Bob Vale will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Springfield Township Volunteer Fire Department, 7111N CR-300W, Michigan City, Ind. 46360.

    Buddy. Yo sorry to hear about your Mom. She was a hard worker dedicated to helping others. She and Jim worked many years together.! Great person! We’ll all miss her!
