Michigan City man charged with OWI, reckless homicide for March accident

Following an investigation, a Michigan City man has been charged in connection with a head-on accident that killed a La Porte man on March 12, 2021.

According to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office, Eric Adair, 24, faces charges of Operating While Intoxicated (Causing Death), Level 4 Felony; Reckless Homicide, Level 5 Felony; and Never Receiving a Valid Driver’s License, Class C Misdemeanor.

Adair and Nathan Blount, 32, were driving in opposite directions on U.S. 35 on the afternoon of March 12 when Adair’s vehicle went across the center line and hit Blount’s vehicle head on. Both were flown to a hospital and Blount died of his injuries the next day.

On June 1, members of the sheriff’s office Fatal Alcohol Crash Team (FACT) submitted their findings to the La Porte County Prosecutor’s Office. On June 4, an arrest warrant was issued for Adair and he surrendered June 7 at the La Porte County Jail. He remains housed there on a $20,000 cash-only pending a Circuit Court hearing.
