One couldn’t have asked for a better night for the La Porte Park and Recreation Department’s first Night Bike Ride of the summer on June 11, 2021. More than 50 bicyclists began the 13-mile route at the Dennis F. Smith Amphitheater in Fox Park and traveled north on McClung Road to the Chessie Trail. The route also included a trip around Stone Lake, then to Kesling Park for a short refreshment stop before winding back to Fox Park.

Upcoming rides are: July 9 (starting at Cummings Lodge in Soldiers Memorial Park), and Aug. 13 (starting at Kesling Park Shelter 4, 2153 A St.). Check-in time is at 8 p.m. with the rides beginning promptly at 9 p.m.

Please note that these are not races. All participants must wear a helmet and have a headlight and taillight on their bikes. Participants under the age of 10 must be accompanied and ride with an adult, either pull-behind or tandem, and have their own registration.

Cost for each ride event is $20 per person ($30 night of ride), which includes post-race snacks and a T-shirt if registered at least a week prior to the event, or until supply is gone. Register at the park office, 250 Pine Lake Ave.
