2 officers and suspect injured in La Porte foot chase

 

A La Porte Police officer, a La Porte County sheriff’s deputy and a suspect were hurt in a long foot chase Wednesday night, July 21, 2021, according to a city police press release.

The chase ensued after the La Porte officer conducted a traffic stop in the 800 block of Boyd Boulevard at about 8:54 p.m. The suspect was being detained so the officer could investigate possible criminal activity. As the suspect was being handcuffed, he began assaulting the officer and managed to break away, fleeing on foot to the Lewis Bakeries factory at 800 Boyd Blvd.

The man scaled the side of the Lewis building, ran across the roof and then entered the facility during production. State police and LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to calls for assistance.

After causing nearly $22,000 of property damage in the facility, the suspect was apprehended at about 10 p.m.

During the chase, the La Porte officer and the sheriff’s deputy were injured. The suspect also injured himself. All were taken to Northwest Health – La Porte for medical attention.

La Porte Police gave no further details because of the ongoing investigation.

    Make him pay for the property damage done to the baking facility. Take it outta his hide.
