LP Presbyterian asks, is that saying really biblical?

Rev. Jane Anabe’s sermon Sunday, “Helping Those Who Can’t,” comes from Matthew 25:31-46, the last of several parables. Jesus is talking about the final days, the differences between the righteous and the unrighteous, and the kingdom of heaven. Jesus talks about it as something already at hand, in this world, not just a promise for the future. In contrast, we often hear people say, “God helps those who help themselves.” But is this idea biblical? How might it relate, or not, to Scripture?

Contemporary worship at 9 a.m. and Traditional worship at 11 a.m. will be indoors every week as well as on Facebook Live and on 89.1 FM in the parking lot, 307 Kingsbury Ave.

Masks are to be worn in the building, including at all times during worship. There will be no congregational singing until Aug. 1.

Pews are marked with tape: At 9 a.m., sit in a red pew; at 11 a.m., sit in a blue pew. People from different households may sit together at their discretion; however, it is recommended to do so only if all are fully vaccinated. There is no limit on the number of people allowed in the building as long as sufficient distance is maintained.

Coffee and refreshments will be served outdoors after worship, weather permitting.

A carillon concert will follow the 11 a.m. service.
