LPHS boys win their own Jack Bransford Invitational

The La Porte Boys cross country team started the season off with an impressive win, and 6 top-20 finishes, against a tough field in the Jack Bransford Invitational at Kesling Park on Saturday. Eight teams competed.

Competing in his final home meet, senior Cole Raymond won the individual title, finishing in 16:31. Junior Jay Pillai and Sophomore Brayden Sobecki put together great races, finishing 3rd (16:50) and 4th (16:52) respectively. Earning a 10th place finish was Junior Stevie Klimczak with a time of 17:21, and senior Mason Tulacz ran an outstanding final home race of his high school career with a 15th-place finish and time of 17:42. Sophomore Preston Peterson also ran to a top-20 finish with a time of 17:53.

Collectively, the Slicers dominated the competition with a complete team effort.

LP girls cross country team finishes 3rd at Bransford Invitational

The La Porte girls cross country team started off the 2021 season with a strong showing at the La Porte Jack Bransford Invitational at Kesling Park on Saturday. Eight teams competed.

LPHS junior Brenna Sobecki earned the individual race honor by winning the race with a time of 19:48. Not far behind was freshmen Lila Gillisse’s 3rd place overall finish with a time of 21:00. Also scoring for the Slicers were senior Ella Minich (25th/22:26), freshman Faith Spain (30/22:56), and senior Rylee Stephany (34/23:03).

In the JV race, freshman Natalie Poston finished 2nd overall with a time of 22:35, and sophomore Megan Lambert earned 10th place with a time of 24:05.

The conditions weren’t optimal for personal bests with the heat, but the girls showed they are ready to battle this season.

Slicers defeat North Judson in boys tennis

La Porte blanked North Judson-San Pierre, 5-0, in boys tennis Saturday.

LPHS girls golfers finish 4th in 11-team invitational

The Slicers battled high humidity and a tough course to place 4th of 11 teams Saturday at the Warsaw Invitational.

Low scorer for La Porte was Jayme Noll with 88. Gabby Hull shot 91, Molly Menne 93, and Kamryn Kubik 94.

Medalist honors for the event went to Homestead’s Madison Dabagia, who shot an impressive 4-under-par 66.

New Prairie volleyball defeats 3 teams before bowing out at LP Invitational

At the La Porte Invitational Saturday, New Prairie earned wins over Fort Wayne Northrop, Hanover Central and Highland before losing in the championship to La Porte, 1-2.

Haley Robinson led with 27 kills, followed by Ellie Michiaels (17) and Nevaeh Finn (11). Libero Josie Troy had 29 digs while Robinson contributed 16 and Delaney Daniels, 12. Emma Fleck dished our 74 assists while middles Ellie Michiaels and Mirabellah Hernandez added a combined 13 blocks. Daniels and Robinson each added 4 aces.

Cougars fall to Penn in boys cross country

The New Prairie boys cross country team competed at the NIC Stomp at Oxbow Park in Elkhart County on Saturday. The meet consisted of a freshman/sophomore race as well as a junior/senior race, with results combined for a team place. The Cougars finished 4th out of 11 teams.

On a warm and muggy morning, many of the Cougars ran well and improved their positions throughout the race. Top 7 New Prairie finishers were: Brenden Oden in 17:54, Dan Reshan in 18:03, Ethan Walden in 18:40, Dan O’Laughlin in 18:50, Kyle Newcomb in 18:51, Logan Thibodeau in 19:28, and Joe Tuszynski in 19:46.

Other New Prairie finishers were: Kaleb Bacztub in 20:05, Lucas Pavlick in 20:08, Jackson Sanford in 20:16, Roman Piergalski in 20:20, Tyler Bacztub in 20:55, Rhys Sebasty in 21:59, Aidan Alander in 22:03, and Dustin Starkey in 28:32.

New Prairie girl runners finish 4th at NIC Stomp

The Cougars raced in the NIC Stomp at Elkhart’s Oxbow Park on Saturday. Lillian Zelasko took 1st in the race, winning by 46 seconds with a time of 18:52. Also scoring for NP were Ilayna Baltes, Elaine Zelasko, Audrey Henning and Maggie Kieszkowski.
