It was the Battle of the Badges in a hot Wiffle ball contest in more ways than one Saturday at Cummings Lodge field – temporarily renamed CASA Field.

In the tournament that raised funds for La Porte County Family Advocates, Michigan City firefighters walked away with the hardware on a sunny, steamy field.

Game 1 pitted La Porte firefighters against La Porte Police. The firefighters blazed through with an 8-0 victory.

In game 2, Michigan City firefighters were red hot, too, as they bested Michigan City Police, 14-10, in a game with plenty of action.

In the MC-vs.-LP championship game, the City hose haulers prevailed, blanking their counterparts 3-0.

At the dunk tank, Ben Konowitz (of LaPorte Seamless Gutter) didn’t mind the soakings as the heat index was well over 100 degrees.

The funds the badge bearers raised will be used to help abused and neglected children in La Porte County. La Porte FOP presented a $500 donation to the organization between games.

This was such a great event. I can’t wait until next year. Thanks for telling the story through photos, Bob.
