NP volleyball team finishes weekend 1-2

The Cougars finished the weekend 1-2 with a win over West Noble and close losses to Plymouth and Northwood at the Concord Tourney.

Haley Robinson had 23 kills on the weekend, followed by Nevaeh Finn and Mirabellah Hernandez, each adding 12. Josie Troy and Robinson each added 28 digs, followed by Maddie McSurley with 25. Robinson also contributed 4 aces, followed by Delaney Daniels with 3. Ellie Michiaels had 4 blocks while McSurley and Hernandez each chipped 3. Setter Emma Fleck dished out 55 assists.

New Prairie girls soccer team falls to Elkhart

The Cougars fell to 2-6 on the season with a loss to Elkhart, 6-0, on Saturday.

NP held Elkhart to 1 second- half goal. They also received some very inspiring play from freshman Sueanne Masters. First-time player Emma Lewis is also showing some great goalkeeping skills, making several big saves for the Cougars.

The Cougars are back in action on Tuesday when they host Washington at 5 p.m. This is their last home game of the season and also Senior Night for the 4 seniors on the team.

Slicer girls volleyball team takes 3rd at its own invitational

At the competitive Slicer invitational Saturday, the Slicers started out beating South Bend St. Joseph, 25-20 and 25-11. They went on to win their pool, taking Mishawaka, 25-22 and 25-16. LaPorte played the Munster Mustangs in the semifinals and battled a tight game, ending in a loss in 3. The scores were 19-25, 25-17 and 3-15. The Slicers took 3rd by beating Concordia in a tight match, 25-22 and 25-23.

Senior Aniya Kennedy led the Slicers offensively and had a great serving day, ending with many aces. Senior Legacy Thomas ended her day with multiple blocks at the net. Sophomore Bella Meier set her offense with multiple blocks and an impressive set-assist day. Senior Lesley Marshall accomplished her 1,000 digs today while leading the slicers defensively and not letting anything hit the floor.

LPHS boys tennis team defeats Elkhart Central

At the LeRoy Invitational Saturday, LaPorte defeated Elkhart Central, 5-0.

Slicer JV football team blanks Chesterton

The JV Slicers pitched a shutout Saturday morning at Kiwanis Field, beating the Chesterton Trojans, 21-0.

The offense was led with touchdowns by Caleb Christensen, Nathan Donah and Kai Jones. The offensive line stepped up big in the second half, providing massive running lanes.

The defense’s dominant effort was led by Christopher Seadorf (multiple tackles for losses, fumble recovery), Joe Harris (multiple TFL, sack), Deegan Mason, Sam Pressler (2 sacks, TFL) and AJ Mrozinski.

LP boys cross country takes 1st at invitational

The LaPorte Boys Cross Country team continued to show why it’s ranked as one of the top teams in northwest Indiana with a win Saturday against a tough field at the Bob Thomas Invitational, Lowell High School.

After running only 3 varsity athletes last week and still not back to 100%, the Slicers were able to compete as a team and win the contest.

Repeating as individual meet champion was senior Cole Raymond, who won the meet with a time of 16:23. Also earning top-15 finishes were sophomore Brayden Sobecki at 16:46 and junior Jay Pillai with a 13th-place finish of 17:11. Finishing the scoring for the Slicers were sophomore Preston Peterson (22/17:33) and Stevie Klimczak (31/17:49).

Team scores: La Porte, 69; Chesterton, 71; Crown Point, 80; Morgan Township, 93; Lake Central, 98; Lowell, 135.

LP girls cross country runners take 2nd at invitational

The LaPorte girls cross country team put together another impressive showing Saturday, finishing 2nd at the Bob Thomas Invitational at Lowell High School.

The Slicers earned three top-15 finishes with junior Brenna Sobecki leading the way with 4th at 19:39, freshman Lila Gillisse in 5th at 20:10 and Ella Dubbs in 12th at 20:50. Also scoring for the Slicers were senior Alli Bender (31/21:40) and freshman Faith Spain (32/21:42).

Team scores: Lake Central, 53; La Porte, 82; Chesterton, 93; Portage, 146; Morgan Township, 150; Hanover Central, 180; Lowell, 195.
