Hoosier Star: In Youth Division, it was a family affair

The La Porte County Symphony Orchestra’s Hoosier Star competition is always a fun event full of anticipation. But the 2021 event went a notch higher as a talented brother and sister were among performers in the Youth Division.

In the final in-person and online vote by community members, Joseph Giuliani was declared the youth winner, and his sister, Afyah Giuliani, was voted runner up.

Kim Kurtis, Adult Division runner up.

Jarynn Sampson of South Bend won the Adult Division title and runner up was Kim Kurtis of Valparaiso. Lola White of  New Albany (center in photo below) won the Joe Mellen Rising Star Award.

First-place adult and youth winners received $1,000. Second-place adult and youth winners received $500.

    I was absolutely blown away by the youth division singers! The orchestra was great, as usual, but the Giuliani kids were on a whole different level!!! WOW! LaPorte, you are the home of real Stars!
