These girls were a part of the La Porte YWCA, circa 1917. The YWCA building was located where the La Porte County Public Library now stands.

Albert Smutzer drives his car by the La Porte County Jail. Beside him is deputy William Anstiss. On the steps of the jail stand Nettie Smutzer and her dog, Silver.

Miss Emily A. Vail, the second librarian at La Porte Public Library, is shown behind the desk. The library was then located at 805 Maple Ave. Miss Vail worked for the library from August 1897 to December 1901.
