Gerald “Jerry” Holeman, 1939-2021


Gerald “Jerry” Lee Holeman, 82, of Union Mills, Ind., passed away Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021, at University of Chicago Medical Center.

He was born June 28, 1939, in Litchfield, Ill., to David and Lola (Wall) Holeman.

Jerry was a millwright for 36 years at Bethlehem Steel. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. Jerry enjoyed helping others and giving back to the community. He proudly coached Little League baseball and helped at the annual Save Our Pond Festival.

On Oct. 26, 1978, in Gary, Ind., he married Gloria J. Dyer, who survives.

Also surviving are his sons, Jerry “Duane” (Lori) Holeman of Duluth, Minn., and Jeff (Chrissy) Holeman of Indianapolis, Ind.; stepson, David Coots of Union Mills; 6 grandchildren, Jeremy Holeman of Antioch, Calif., Eric (Rebecca) Holeman of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Mat (Amanda) Holeman of Cloquet, Minn., Jessica Holeman of Dallas-Fort Worth, Tex., Andrew (Pinky) Holeman of Norwich, Conn., and Yvonne Rager of Sarasota, Fla.; 9 great-grandchildren; siblings, David, Claude and Linda; half-sister, Normalee; half-brother, James; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepson, Michael C. Coots.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. until the service. Burial will follow at Union Mills Cemetery.

    Jo so sorry to hear of the passing of your wonderful sweet husband. I remember coming to your house with Linda and Tom and how sweet and welcoming you both were. Prayers for your family during this most difficult time. RIP Jerry.
