He was born Feb. 14, 1958, in La Porte to Stanley John and Peggy Ann (Hoare) Brenda.

Rob was a man of many passions. He loved sports, especially the Boston Bruins, St. Louis Cardinals, and all things Notre Dame. He golfed, fished, scuba dived, camped, mountain biked, and snow and water skied. In his retirement he enjoyed gardening and baking cakes and pies. How lucky were you if you received one of his masterpieces.

Above all, Rob was known and loved by all for his graciousness in every life situation. He was kind, loving, wise, forgiving, outgoing, adventurous, and had an amazing sense of humor. He would want you all to know that he trusted his God through all his life blessings, trials and tribulations.

As a freshman on the Slicers’ JV team, Rob was a senior catcher on varsity. He was simply the best catcher I have had the privilege of watching in high school. I also played against Rob when he was at IU. More importantly, Rob was a great human being and always had time to talk and make you smile. RIP Rob and may God keep you. Until we meet again.

Was just thinking about him as I drove past his house. I always say I owe him. My memory is he got a base hit in the semifinal of the state championship game which was tied score. Coach Schreiber put me in to pinch run for him & I got to steal 2 nd & got to 3rd on a fielders choice & scored the go ahead run on a passed ball. If Robbie wasn’t so slow on foot I’d have never seen the field. What a great memory.

I was fortunate to grow up with Robbie on LaPorte’s east side. We played hockey on the ponds and eventually were LaPorte Icer teammates. He was full of life and energy. I know he will be missed by family and friends.

Our deepest sympathies to the whole Brenda family and all of Robs friends. Dave was a good friend and fellow ‘76 teammate. My youngest brother Keith was about five that year…his hero was Rob Brenda. He positioned himself every home game behind home plate and imitated Robs every move. He was inducted into the Slicer baseball HOF the same year as Rob was. Keith said it was the thrill of a lifetime to go in with his hero. Rob will truly be missed.

    Dear Brenda Family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you today, September 17, 2021. All your family has so much talent and Blessed so many people as well as our family. I’ve always enjoyed spending time with all the Brenda’s – like kindred spirits. I wish I had been around to witness Rob’s many accomplishments. My mother, Josephine and my father, Bert always appreciated all the help of your family especially after my siblings grew up and left. You are all like my other siblings because my mother bonded with your mother at the birth of John and my brother Don at Holy Family Hospital on “E” Street (now demolished). I remember sneaking in to visit my mom and newborn brother. That was the first time I met the Brenda family – the first of many more siblings for us! – just a little history…I just feel a little closer to you and that’s why!
