1921

Sixteen members of the famous 37th Indiana Infantry gather in the GAR rooms in the courthouse for their annual reunion to talk of the Civil War days and the stories so dear to them.

1971

A bomb shatters Saigon’s second largest nightclub, killing at least eight, including three American soldiers. It was a block away from the hotel where  George McGovern is staying.

1996

La Porte County Judge Steven King will not hear the lawsuit that resulted when a speaker tower fell onto the crowd gathered at Washington Park for President Clinton’s visit because he was a witness.

2011

After nearly a year without a director and possible funding cuts, the La Porte Civic Auditorium’s new director, Geoff Weliver, says he wants the public to know the facility is open for business.
