La Porte County Symphony Board member highlight: Joan Davis

Joan Davis

Joan Davis has lived in this area since 1985, coming from the Colorado/Wyoming area. Born into a farming family in Colorado, she grew up helping with the family businesses, as her parents eventually moved on to own their own electrical contracting company in Wyoming.

A graduate of the University of Wyoming in Theater Arts and Music Education, Joan was drawn to this area due to its proximity of Chicago, its beauty and the friendliness of the people here. She has stayed, in part, because the music and arts scene here is amazing.

Joan grew up learning piano from her grandmother, a music teacher and lifelong performer on piano and organ. Singing along to anything and everything, Joan learned to play and sing (and love!) all types of music but opera and gospel are her favorites. Joan began teaching piano and voice to all ages in 1991, in addition to other jobs in retail, bookkeeping, secretarial and customer service. In addition to teaching, Joan has played, directed choirs and sung at area churches and on praise teams since 1998. She is now a familiar face at Roxy Music Shop in La Porte and is so happy her life is now all music, all of the time

Joan feels extremely blessed for the opportunities she has been given and is excited and grateful to be serving on the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors. Joan’s passion has always been getting youngsters excited about studying music, and she is thrilled to be part of that goal of the symphony.
