LP County Symphony Board member highlight: Steve Kring

Steve Kring

Steve Kring was born and raised in Michigan City. He attended St. Paul Lutheran School and Rogers High School, then graduated from Ball State University with degrees in physiology, business and accounting. After college he spent 5 years working for NBD Bank (now JP Morgan Chase) in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Steve never anticipated coming back to the area, but in 1997 he received a call from Craig Dwight to discuss a commercial lending position at Horizon Bank, and the rest is history. Steve has been with Horizon Bank for 24 years, working primarily in commercial lending, and now serves as regional president for northwest Indiana.

Steve met his wife, Tracy, during his last year at Ball State. They have been married for 27 years and have 2 sons, 18 and 15 years old: Alex is a freshman at Valparaiso University, majoring in journalism and creative writing, and Ollie is a sophomore at La Porte High School and plays football and basketball. Both sons, unlike Mom and Dad, play musical instruments. Alex played the double bass in the La Porte Middle School and LPHS orchestras under Pete Collins for 7 years and was a member of the South Bend Youth Symphony. Ollie plays the trombone in the LPHS band, enjoying time with Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan. Steve says his children use parts of their brains that he has never tapped into when it comes to music and creativity.

Steve counts his blessings of a wonderful family and working for a great financial institution, Horizon Bank, whose staff truly cares about the community. Steve enjoys playing golf, hanging out with family and friends and watching his sons’ concerts and sporting events. He has greatly enjoyed the short time he has been on the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra Board and is passionate about the value of giving the gift of music to our community.
