Lot Vail Oglesby was a widely known groceryman in La Porte. He was born in New Carlisle in 1862, attended high school in Rolling Prairie, then started his grocery business in 1884. He remained in business for almost 56 years. When he retired, he was a member of the partnership Oglesby & Dester at the corner of Michigan and Jefferson avenues in La Porte. This photo of the Old Buck Home was taken by a Herald-Argus photographer for a tour in spring of 1963. The Old Buck Home was the residence of Alvin Buck, Esquire, of Center Township and was located on Route 35 North.
