William Armstrong, 1945-2021

 

William “Bill” E. Armstrong, 76, of La Porte, Ind., passed away Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021.

He was born Aug. 6, 1945, in Centre, Ala., to Samuel B. and Ruth (Colley) Armstrong.

Bill retired from R&L Carriers as a truck driver. He served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of American Legion Post 83 of La Porte, VFW Post 1130 of La Porte, the La Porte Honor Guard, and Agape Christian Church of La Porte.

Bill married Debra Biehl in 1980. Debra survives with their children, Kelli Chavez of Plymouth, Ind., and Jenna (Houston) Lindquist of La Porte; William is also survived by two daughters from a previous marriage, Amy (Mike) McCord of Bluffton, Ala., and Christie Hamilton of Centre, Ala. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Audrey Hendon of Centre, Joan (Tim) Stinson of Centre, Minnie Bryant of Centre and Mack (Judy) Armstrong of Centre.

Bill was preceded in death by brothers, Sammy, Charlie and Lewis Armstrong.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, La Porte. Military Honors will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the La Porte Honor Guard, 228 E. Lincoln Way, La Porte, Ind. 46350.
